Tented River Camp
The Tented River Camp is an idyllic little haven located right on the edge of a small oxbow down on the Duiwenhoks river on Koensrust’s western boundary in amongst milkwoods, aloes, bullrushes and river birds.
The River Camp is for water babies of all kinds – swimmers, fishermen, canoeists(a double canoe is provided), sunbunnies – the wooden deck is endless, birders – plenty right there and more in the hills behind, and the big grassy field is perfect for games of any sort. During the day you may see a boater or two pass by. At night, silence!
The Camp is tucked away in a sheltered private space behind a shed. It accommodates 8 people in 3 separate canvas cabins, two with queen beds and one with four single beds. The fully equipped kitchen/dining room is in a converted boat shed. Around and between the kitchen and the cabins is a huge partly covered wrap around wooden deck, complete with picnic tables and bar, and a glorious large pit braai. There is an inside hot-water shower. The flush toilet, in an outhouse with a view, is under the Milkwoods just above the sheds.
Additional Information:
You may add a further 2 people in your own tent. Maximum guests at any one time is 10 people.
Please be aware that the hot water is solar powered and will rely on sunny days for hot water.
The Camp is equipped with a gas stove, an electric fridge/freezer, solar hot water and electric lighting. All linen and bedding is provided. No wall plugs are provided. 2 USB ports are located in the kitchen for charging phones. There is very limited cell reception at the river.
River guests are welcome to visit the beaches at the other side of the farm . Our seaside guests may come down to the river to use the river jetty and boma but not the area behind the boat sheds.
Please note that the last 200m of the track down to the river is very steep. Guests wanting to drive themselves down will require a 4×4 with low range and will need to sign an indemnity to be able to this.
Guests without a low range 4×4 will have to carry their own belongings down and back up again. Parking is up on the ridge for non 4×4 vehicles. You will have to be capable of walking down and back up again as the staff cannot transport people up and down the track.
